Anouk Jonker

Anouk Jonker (Uithoorn, the Netherlands, 1989) received her BFA from California College of the Arts in 2011 and an MA Art History from Queen’s University in 2018. Her work has been exhibited internationally and she has been fortunate to participate in artist residencies in France, Germany, and Canada. Although she continues her work as a portrait artist, her recent paintings revisit historical narratives and forms of representation in Western art. Her exhibition installations address concepts relating museum studies and reception theory to encourage exhibition visitors to question the authority of the gallery, museum, and artist. She works primarily with oils on canvas with an impasto technique, but also likes to sketch, dab, drizzle, and erase.
