His strong and undeniable artistic flare has enabled Gionatan Scali to grow to become a recognized curator and musician amongst peers and fans alike. Influenced by Connan Mockasin, and F. Zappa Gionatan’s endearingly goofy sound draws a comparison to that of garage-rock icon Mac DeMarco. Gionatan’s melodically slurred yet articulate vocals slot together with the catchy guitar riff in a way that pulls and drags the listener’s attention between the two.
Step out of his nest with his debut record called “My curly Hair” : an Album that is definitely a dissertation about precarity of life in the UK and a manifesto for any vulnerable people they don’t feel right about our messy political time. The record was made in 6 hours session, in east London. The record is Mixed by Constantin Grönert and mastered by Edward Woods in South London.
« Hell Boi » is the first release to hit the UK as part of Gionatan’s exciting new project. The single was written after an exchange at the East London pub where Gionatan was working : a customer asked ‘Hey mate, you right?’ he said » No, I’m not ». His bad reaction made him write down the song. The depth of his lyricism going far beyond purely observational, Gionatan describes the realization that people often cover up when they are not feeling okay with these platitudes. « Hell Boi » is his answer to the boredom of the formal manner of modern society, with its mundane and sometimes perplexing rituals. He also released a music video and made the third single « Yorkshire Pudding » launch 2nd April 2018 @paper dress vintage, Hackney, London. This album release is one to watch, and his live performances, not one to be missed.
FR // Gionatan Scali est un chanteur/compositeur et activiste. Son flair artistique puissant lui a permis de devenir un musicien reconnu parmi ses pairs et ses fans. Sa musique, influencée entre autres par des artistes tels que Connan Mockasin et Frank Zappa, est comparable à celle de l’icône garage rock Mac DeMarco. Sa voix et ses riffs de guitare attirent fortement l’auditeur.
Son premier disque intitulé « My Curly Hair » est sans aucun doute une thèse sur la précarité de la vie au Royaume-Uni et un manifeste pour les personnes vulnérables qui ne se sentent pas à l’aise face à notre actualité politique chaotique.
« Hell Boi » est le premier enregistrement du nouveau projet de Gionatan Scali. L’idée lui est venue d’un échange dans un pub londonien avec un client. Ce dernier avait demandé à Gionatan s’il allait bien, et celui ci lui a répondu que non. Ce ressentiment lui a permis d’écrire cette chanson, en réponse à l’ennui de la formalité dans la société moderne, avec ses rituels banals et parfois déroutants.
Il a également sorti un clip vidéo et réalisé son troisième single « Yorkshire Pudding » le 2 avril 2018. Cette sortie d’album et ses performances live sont à ne pas manquer.
