OUT-STANDING

.

As part of the call for artistic projects of 59 Rivoli, the exhibition “Out | standing”, will present the work of three young Korean artists residing in France; Hyeoki Kwon, Sung-yeon Hong, and Seunghwan Lee. The exhibition, organized by the Artfact Art Project Group, is designed to redefine the meaning of the word ‘outstanding’. Beyond this meaning, by breaking the word down into ‘out’ and ‘standing’, the title can evoke a play on words that would have the meaning of ‘standing outside the boundaries’.

In the world in which we live, we never stop feeling, listening, tasting and looking at everything around us. Each individual is unique and each builds his or her own life. The world cannot be seen as one world for everyone. Just as the interpretation and perception of a color can vary depending on the person looking at it. Red, for example, can be seen as a reference to love but also to death. In this example it is often associated with youth and passion among Koreans. Thus, the world can be interpreted in an infinite number of ways according to the perspectives and looks of individuals. In this exhibition, three Korean artists invite the public to find a new perspective on our world through their works.

Hyeoki Kwon narrates the banality and particularity of the human being through the world of chess by creating a chessboard with pieces filled only with a king, the latter being indispensable in order to determine victory – From No-W-here (2021).

Sung-yeon Hong with the emergence of “fast fashion”, an overproduction of clothing that naturally leads to mass destruction, wishes to give a new figurative interpretation and a new life to these worn clothes – Vuja-de, series (2020).

Seunghwan Lee is looking at the phenomenon of digitization of humans and nature through the calculation of algorithms. Through natural elements such as leaves, stones and trees, he shows how man and nature come together in a space of finite caculi- No. leaf, series (2020).

Where are we located, what are we looking at and from which point of view? This exhibition is an opportunity to see from a distance how our everyday life, which seems to be quite ordinary, can be perceived as very different.
